Mr. Willie Alton Carlton, age 55 of Conover passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist-Winston-Salem.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. C. Randy Minor, Pastor Florence Bryant, Rev. Ronald Howell and Pastor Harrison Carlton officiating. Burial with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard will be in Scenic Memorials Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.   

Willie was born June 18, 1968, in Wilkes County to Allen and Hazel Horton Carlton and preceded in death by his parents.   He graduated from Wilkes Central High School and served in the US Navy as a missile and missile checkout technician on the USS John C. Calhoun.   Willie was a devoted postal carrier serving Statesville, NC, and a devoted fan of UNC Chapel Hill.  He was active in church and to know him was to love him and to love him you were blessed.

He is survived by a son, Julius Elleby (Charleigh) of Norfolk, VA; two daughters, Whitney T. Carlton of Gastonia, NC  Kalesha P. Horton of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Cayden Horton, Kaliyah Horton, Gianni Carlton, Sunny Leigh Elleby; three sisters, Linda S. Tugman of Lenoir, NC, Jo Y. Ontiveros (Francisco) of Hickory, NC, Connie R. Carlton of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, Steve A. Carlton of Granite Falls, NC and Michael D. (Terri) Carlton of Lenoir, NC; three sisters-in-law, Estechilian Horton, Taurussya Cockerham and L. Leayre Horton; a brother-in-law, Dwayne Cockerham; four uncles, Wilson Horton (Gail), Douglas Carlton, Harrison Carlton (Nancy), Naman Carlton; an aunt, Gozelle Ferguson; host of nieces and nephews; and former wife, Tyressya E. Carlton.
