William "JR" Howard Owens, Jr.

Mr. William Howard Owens, Jr., better known as “JR”, age 73 of Wilkesboro passed away  Friday, October 8, 2021 at his home. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Scenic Memorial Gardens with Rev. Derick Hodges officiating.  

Mr. Owens was born June 17, 1948 in Wilkes County to William Howard Owens, Sr and Eula Elizabeth Crysel Owens.  He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years.   

He was retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department and he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps with a tour of duty in Vietnam.  JR was also a talented wood worker. 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter; Leigh Ann Owens, a sister; Mozelle Beshears and three brothers; Hubert Owens, C.P. Owens and Roger Owens.  

He is survived by his former wife and best friend; Carol Jones Owens of Wilkesboro and a sister; Geraldine Miller and husband Lloyd of Millers Creek and several nieces and nephews.  

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 9, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or the Donor’s Choice. 

The family requests that everyone attending the service wear a face covering.
