Mr. William “Bill” Bruce Johnson, age 70 of North Wilkesboro passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Mountlawn Memorial Park with Pastor Brian Mathis, Rev. Steven Shumate, Rev. Ronnie McManus and Rev. Roger Jennings officiating. Honors will be presented by The Wilkes County Fireman’s Association Honor Guard. There will be a public viewing from 12:00 until 5:00 PM Saturday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson was born October 22, 1950 in Wilkes County to Bruce and China Blevins Johnson. He was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church.
For the past 36 years Bill was a firefighter and past Fire Chief of the Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department and served 16 of those years as Chief and several years as an Assistant Chief. He also served on the Knotville Volunteer Fire Department before joining Mountain View. Bill is known for his humble and kind heart, always willing to go above and beyond to help others in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Henry Ogburn and a nephew, Bruce Derrick Ogburn.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Mary Lou Russell Johnson of the home; two daughters, Natalie Dillard and husband Tim of Clemmons, Michelle Sparks and husband Randy of North Wilkesboro; three grandchildren, Madalyn Dillard, Ashlyn Dillard, Jaxson Sparks and a sister, Emma Obgurn of North Wilkesboro.
