William Eller Obituary

William Kyle Eller, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Wilkesboro on August 6th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, E. Richard and Selma D. Nichols Eller, a brother, Ernest Eller, his former spouse and friend, Ella Jean Whittington Eller, and numerous other beloved family members from the Wilkes and Valle Crucis areas.

He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of N. Wilkesboro. Later in life he attended REVO church in Winston-Salem where he lived and worked.

He attended Wake Forest University prior to enlisting in the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany and served from 1956-1958. He returned to Wilkes County after his service and began his career at Lowe’s Companies as an Assisting Purchasing Agent. In 1970 he was promoted to Merchandise Manager and became Marketing Manager in 1974. In 1976 Kyle was promoted to Vice President of Marketing – Recreation & Sports. While at Lowe’s in the late 60’s he signed Richard Petty to promote “The Petty Blue” line-up of lawnmowers across the Southeast. During the late 60’s and early 70’s Kyle was also co-owner along with his parents of Jean’s Ladies Dress Shop in downtown N. Wilkesboro. After leaving Lowe’s Companies, he started his own business and was self-employed. In later life he worked and retired from 109 Building Supply in Winston-Salem.

Kyle was an avid golfer and a former president of Oakwoods Country Club. He also served as a past member of the board of directors of the Wilkes YMCA.

He enjoyed watching his Demon Deacons play and loved attending his grandchildren’s many sporting

events over the years. He always had a smile and a bear of a handshake for everyone.

He is survived by his two children; Lee Ann Minton (Greg) of Wilkesboro, Greg A. Eller (Melissa) of Winston-Salem, and five grandchildren, Katherine Minton of Winston-Salem, Elizabeth Minton of the home, Grant Eller (Ashton) of Sarasota, Fla, Nicholas Eller (Faith) of Winston-Salem, and Stacey Lee Eller of the home.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel.  Burial will follow at Mountlawn Memorial Park. 

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
