Mrs. Vernell Bare Rhoades, age 92 of Hays passed away Friday, August 25, 2023, at SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville.

Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Mountlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Smith officiating.

Vernell was born February 10, 1931, in Wilkes County to Rufus and Ida Rhoades Bare. She was a member of Haymeadow Baptist Church. Vernell and Elbert were owners and operated Rhoades Book Store in North Wilkesboro for 53 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Rhoades; a daughter, Trixie Rhoades; two sons, Bobby Rhoades, Junior Rhoades; two grandchildren, Keith, Suzie and a sister, Estel Mayberry.

She is survived by a son, Rickey Rhoades (Debbie) of Hays; six grandchildren, Chris (Michelle), Roger, Scott, Jason, Marlis, Mark. Great grandchildren, Christopher, Lance, Hailey and several others.
