Mr. Terry Richard Stokes, age 83 of Moravian Falls passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Taylorsville House in Taylorsville.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2024 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. Entombment with Honors by the North Carolina Highway Patrol Honor Guard will follow in Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:45 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Terry was born August 22, 1940 in Catawba County to Arthur James and Rebekah Lee Brown Stokes. He was a member of Wilkes YMCA Men’s Club for over 40 years. He also coached Youth basketball from 1969 until 2013 for the YMCA, AAU and YBOA travel basketball teams. He took many teams to different states representing the state of North Carolina. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement.
Terry attended the 30th North Carolina State Highway Patrol School at the Institute of Government at Chapel Hill. After graduation, he was assigned to Wilkes County. He served with the Highway Patrol in Wilkes County until he retired in 1993. After retirement he went to work for Scenic Memorial Gardens and Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Vernadeen Sigmon Stokes and a brother and sister-in-law; James Lee Stokes and Laverne Stokes.
He is survived by a daughter; Tamera Stokes Stotler (Toby), two sons; Bradley Stokes (Paula) and Brandon Stokes (Lisa), all of Wilkesboro, four grandchildren; Tyler Stotler (Jessie) of Clemmons, McKenzie Stokes West (Zach) of Traphill, Katie Stokes of Wilkesboro and Colton Stotler of Raleigh.
