Ted Rhudy Obituary

Mr. Ted L. Rhudy, age 92 of Wilkesboro, husband of the late Bonnie Ruth Cooley Rhudy, died on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his home.

A private family graveside service will be held at Scenic Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rhudy was born June 18, 1928 in Grayson County, VA to the late Ed L. and Edith Lilly Funk Rhudy.  He was married to the love of his life for 63 years after they met at the candy counter of the local five and dime.  Ted L. Rhudy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great – grandfather.  He took pride in providing for his family.

He served in the United States Air Force.  He retired after 32 years from Thom McCan Manufacturing where he held multiple management positions including Plant Manager and Vice President of Manufacturing.

Nothing put a smile on his face more than to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  For this reason he will forever be known as PawPaw, PawPaw Kit-Kat and PawPaw CheeseStick for the special snacks he provided on his visits.

Mr. Rhudy loved God and was a faithful member of Wilkesboro United Methodist Church where he was a member of Methodist Men for 50 years.  He was also a member of the Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Fellow for Humanitarian Services Award.  Mr. Rhudy enjoyed playing golf and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a daughter;  Carolyn Rhudy Hodges of Morganton, a son; Roger Rhudy and wife Janet of Wilkesboro, four grandchildren; Krista Davis and husband Scott, Audrea Combs, David Rhudy, and Joshua Rhudy, four great-grandchildren,  Andrew Davis, Austin Davis, Adam Davis, and Christian Davis, and two sisters; Kathleen Hackler and Nancy Edwards, both of Elk Creek, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wake Forest Baptist Health Care at Home Hospice, 126 Executive Drive, Suite 110, Wilkesboro NC 28697 or Blue Ridge First in Families, 406 B West Main Street, Wilkesboro NC 28697.
