Mrs. Suzanne Barnes Lester, age 69, of Athens, Georgia, formerly of Moravian Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Atlanta, Georgia.
The viewing and receiving of friends will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, May 1, 2026, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel Rev. Willie Jackson, Rev. Ronald Howell, and Rev. Roosevelt Carlton officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens.
Suzanne was born August 17, 1956, in Wilkes County to Paul Gwyn Barnes, Sr. and Artie Sue Horton Barnes. Professionally, Suzanne devoted over 20 years to a career as an Administrative Assistant at Wilkes Community College and later at Athens Technical College. She published a book of poetry, Expressions from a Jar of Clay, in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Artie Sue Barnes.
She is survived by her father, Paul Barnes, Sr,; husband, Errol Lester, Sr of the home; daughter, Natasha Waller (Johnny, Jr.) of Atlanta, GA; son, Errol Lester, Jr. (Latara) of Statham, GA; five grandchildren, Errol (Trey) Lester III, Jordyn Lester, Londyn Lester, Justice Waller, Johnny Waller III; five sisters, Carol Wilson of Wilkesboro, Betty Gyant (Benny) of North Wilkesboro, Paulette Hoke (Richard) of North Wilkesboro, Bonnie Carlton of Charlotte, Salicia Ceron of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Paul Barnes, Jr. of North Wilkesboro; brothers-in-law, Eric Lester, Jr. and Garfield Lester; sisters-in-law, Sandra Green and Terri-Jo Daley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; aunt, Glenda Carlton (Tommy); uncles, Henry Barnes (Patsy), and Roosevelt Carlton.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hoke, Talon Brown, Devin Lineberger, Terrence Brown, Andy Carlton, and Greg Baker.
Flowers will be accepted.
