Steve Oliver "Buck" Owens

Steve Owens, of North Wilkesboro, NC passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the age of 71 years old. He went to his final resting place at Wilkes Health and Rehabilitation of North Wilkesboro, NC.  Steve was born September 16, 1954, in North Wilkesboro, NC to James Oliver Owens and Betty Montgomery Owens of North Wilkesboro. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his late wife Marsha Owens. He is survived by his Son, Derek Owens (Kristy) of North Wilkesboro, two granddaughters; Tinley and Ruthie Owens.

As a teenager, Steve developed a lifelong passion for music and playing the drums during the late 1960s and early 1970s. At that time, the television show Hee Haw was widely popular, and Steve affectionately adopted the nickname “Buck,” which suited him perfectly. His love for music led him to travel up and down the East Coast, performing and sharing his talent with many.

Having grown up on the family farm, Buck possessed a natural ability for fixing things. This skill, combined with his strong work ethic, would later guide his professional journey. One day, a call from a realtor friend asking him to look at a property sparked what would become a thirty-year career. From that moment, Steve founded Insight Home Inspections, where he established himself as the premier home inspector in Wilkes County and the surrounding areas.

Dedicated and meticulous, Steve took great pride in his work, earning a reputation for honesty, thoroughness, and professionalism. His clients trusted him to provide not only detailed inspections but also peace of mind during one of life’s most important decisions.

Outside of his career, Steve could often be found working around his home, tending to his yard, or ensuring the pool was just the right temperature for his grandchildren to enjoy.

Though Steve’s life was gone too soon, his legacy of hard work, integrity, and love for family and music will never be forgotten.

As per Steve’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Steve’s honor to the North Wilkes Middle School Girls Volleyball Team and/or Girls Basketball Team. 2776 Yellow Banks Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

Following his wife Marsha’s final wish, though he can no longer watch his granddaughters on the court, his spirit will forever be with them—cheering them on with love and pride from above.
