Shirley (Sheets) Shumate

Mrs. Shirley Sheets Shumate, age 87 of Wilkesboro passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 19, 2025 at Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Shannon Critcher and Rev. Mitch Duncan officiating.  The body will be placed in the Mausoleum Chapel at 10:30 AM.  Entombment will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum

Shirley was born February 1, 1938, in Wilkes County to Otto and Faye Wyatt Sheets.

She was a member of Millers Creek Baptist Church, lived a full life and was a lifelong learner.  Shirley enjoyed home schooling her grandchildren and teaching Sunday School. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Plato Shumate, a granddaughter; Jennifer Church and a brother Sam Sheets.

She is survived by a son; Michael Dennis Shumate and wife, Carolyn of Wilkesboro, a grandson; Chase Shumate and wife Shana of Millers Creek, three great grandchildren; Donovan Smith, Chaselyn Church, Jennifer Shumate, a sister; Maxine Key of Kannapolis, a brother; Marvin Sheets of Millers Creek and a sister-in-law; Nancy Sheets of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.
