Shirley June (Mikeal) Johnston

Mrs. Shirley June Mikeal Johnston, age 89 of Purlear passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Yellow Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Boyce Cleary officiating. Burial will be in Yellow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, July 11, 2025 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

She was born on July 2, 1935 in Wilkes County to Joseph Lee Mikeal and Ruth Eller Mikeal. She retired from Wilkes Central High School as secretary and was a member of Yellow Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Johnston; sons and daughters-in-law, Mikeal and Sandy Brown, Eric and Heather Brown; sisters, Betty Mikeal and Wilma Fairchild; brothers, Roy and Johnny Triplett.

She is survived by daughter, Tonya Blackburn and husband Nashone of North Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Joshua Mikeal Shaw and wife Taylor, Amber Lee Tyler and husband Clay and Corban Dale Vestal; great-grandchildren, Ayden and Maxx Tyler; sister, Linda Morrison of South Carolina; brother, Clay Triplett of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
