In Loving Memory of Scott McLain
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Brian McLain, 58, who passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2025, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. Scott was born on July 4th, 1966 in Wilkes County to James David and Virginia Shepard McLain.
He was a devoted father to his children David, Katharine, Abigail and Hannah-Grace, and a loving sibling to his brothers, Tony McLain (Sandra), William McLain and sister, Judy Griffin (Trealy) and several nephews and nieces. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ricky McLain and Danny McLain, as well as his canine best friend, Dexter.
Scott graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree. He worked for Valspar Corporation for more than 25 years. Throughout his life, Scott was known for his passion for music, his love for his family, his faith in God and his quirky sense of humor. A decade-long struggle with Inclusion Body Myositis would weaken most men’s resolve—but not Scott’s. He never let his health issues stop him from living life to the fullest.
Scott was able to manage his disease at home due to his special long-term care giver, Susan Miller. The family thanks her as well as the following caregivers who made Scott’s life at home more comfortable: Landon Absher, Stephanie Clonch, Heather Gregory, Donna Moore, Lewis McNeill, Bill Brame and Kathy Roberts.
In recent years, Scott extended his family even further through the countless connections he made in the Foothills Amateur Radio Club where he was known by his CB handle, KN4HND.
Scott will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him, whether as family by blood or by the bonds of circumstance.
Funeral services for Scott will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Pastor Ronnie McMillan officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. All who loved him are welcome to join in honoring his memory.
Flowers will be accepted or the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Wilkes, PO Box 306, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or to the American Neuromuscular Foundation (www.neuromuscularfoundation.org) in Scott’s name.
Scott will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and love. May his memory be eternal.
