Sarah Frances Becorest, age 97, of Millers Creek, previously of Greensboro, passed away

December 21 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist – Wilkes Medical Center, with her daughter, Jhonda, by her side.

Sarah was born October 16, 1927, in Rock, WV to the late Robert Kenner Pinkard and Ellen

Maude Fanning Pinkard. When Sarah was very young her grandfather once told her she wasn’t but a “speck” of a thing, and the nickname stuck with her the rest of her life. She was affectionately known as “Speck” or “Speckle” to most all that knew her. She was a graduate of Bramwell High School. While out with friends at a local dance one night, she met a very handsome Marine who

was home on leave, John Lucas Becorest. A couple of years later, they were married on October 31,1946, in Tazewell, Virginia. Fast forward to 1961, when they lovingly welcomed a baby girl into their lives and named her Jhonda. In August 1974, the three moved from Wurtland, KY to Greensboro, NC. Sadly, John passed away three months later from heart disease.

In 1978, when Jhonda began attending UNC-G Sarah went to work at Belk, Four Seasons Mall, where she soon became the manager of their Bridal Department. She was perfect for that position. She loved helping young ladies pick out their wedding gowns and veils. Many brides sent thank you notes to her after their purchases, and some sent letters to the store manager describing how helpful she was to them at such an important time in their lives.

Sarah was a member of Vandalia Presbyterian Church in Greensboro since 1975. She was a member of the crocheting and knitting group which made and gave away numerous prayer shawls to folks suffering an illness or recuperating from surgery. She also served in the nursery, was a member of the Ladies Circle, served as an usher and always made herself available to help prepare and serve food to families following funerals. She had many dear friends at Vandalia, some of which she was still in contact with up until the week before her death.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Pinkard, her sister, Elizabeth Campbell, and infant granddaughter, Faith Miller.

Survivors include her daughter, Jhonda Becorest Miller and husband Sigsbee of Millers Creek; grandson, Zach Miller and fiancée Emily Faw of Winston-Salem; sister, Nancy Brooks of Greensboro; Godson, John Diachenko of Winston-Salem; six nephews, six nieces and several great- nephews and great-nieces as well as numerous beloved friends.

Sarah moved to Millers Creek in December 2022, to live with Jhonda and Sigsbee. When the time came that she needed some assistance during the hours Jhonda was at work, she was well cared for by Madeline Myers, Linda Smith, Rylee Moretz and Marlene Miller. The family thanks you most sincerely for your wonderful care for Sarah. She loved each of you very much.
