Mr. Roy Arnold Brooks, 82 of Wilkesboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday November 13, 2023 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Brown, Rev. Sherrill Wellborn, and Rev. Dwayne Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Brooks was born on March 19, 1941 to the late Fred and Nancy Johnson Brooks. He was a professional left-handed pitcher for the Cubs! He spent forty-five years working in the construction and home improvement business. He loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing games with them and watching his grandsons play ball. He loved outdoor activities, going to flea markets and the cattle sale, playing sports, and just spending time with the grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Lou Nichols, and Elsie Hawley; four brothers, James Brooks, Luther Brooks, J.C. Brooks, and Jerry Brooks; and son-in-law, Ray “Buzz” Norman, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Patricia “Patti” Elledge Brooks; one daughter, Robin Brooks Norman of State Road; two sons, Randy Arnold Brooks (Chantel) and Ricky Brooks (Julie), all of Wilkesboro; twelve grandchildren, Jonathan Norman (Kayla) of Dobson, Nick Norman of State Road, Addie Hendricks (Brandon) of Mocksville, Lillie Norman of State Road, Noah Norman of State Road, Lucas Brooks (Victoria) of Wilkesboro, Faith Brooks of Wilkesboro, Noel Henderson (Dylan) of Cornelius, Jonah Brooks of Wilkesboro, Taylor Brooks (Amanda) of North Wilkesboro, Bethany Brooks of Wilkesboro, Skylar Brooks of Wilkesboro; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon Norman, Brodie Norman, Mamie Norman, Waylen Hendricks, Nash Hendricks, Clover Henderson, Annie Henderson due in February, Matthew Bell, Callie Brooks; four sisters, Ella Mae Dowell, Betty Brown and Grace Meade, all of North Wilkesboro, Elizabeth Church (Gene) of Valdese; one brother Bill Brooks (Mary Ella) of Baltimore, MD; many loving nieces and nephews.
