Mrs. Ella Rose Moore Reavis, age 81 of Millers Creek passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, September 24, 2023 at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with Dr. Bert Young officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00PM for viewing. The family will receive friends at the church’s Wayland Hall from 2:00 until 3:45PM. Burial will be in Welcome Home Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rose was born November 10, 1941 in Floyd County, Kentucky, to Thomas Garfield Moore and Ella Belle Akers Moore. She attended Cliff Elementary School, Prestonsburg Elementary School, and graduated from Prestonsburg High School, Prestonsburg, Kentucky in 1958. While attending high school, Rose was a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Future Homemakers of America, received her State Homemakers Degree presented at the state capital, Frankfort, Kentucky, and received the Good Citizenship Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In the fall of 1958, Rose entered Berea College, Berea, Kentucky, where she received her B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1962. While in college, Rose was a member of the Berea College Home Economics Club and the Berea Baptist Student Union Choir.

Rose began her professional career as a home economics teacher at Garrand County High School in Kentucky, where she taught from 1962-65. During 1965-66, Rose taught 7 th grade at C.C. Wright Elementary School in Wilkes County, North Carolina. From 1966-70 she worked for the Wilkes County Agricultural Extension Service as the Wilkes County Home Economics Extension Agent. She taught eighth grade at North Wilkesboro Elementary in 1970-71. From 1971-78, Rose taught kindergarten at Fairplains Elementary School. She received her Early Childhood teaching certification from Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina in 1972. In 1978, Rose took a position as kindergarten teacher at Millers Creek Primary School where she taught until her retirement in 1998, completing a teaching career of thirty-three years. Rose received the Millers Creek Primary School, Teacher of the Year Award, 1991-92.

Rose was a member of First Baptist Church, North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, where she served on a variety of committees since 1966. She has chaired both the Social Activities Committee and the Weekday Preschool Committee and co-chaired the Decorating Committee. In addition, she has taught Sunday School to K-3 children. Rose was a member of the Wilkes Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and the Health Foundation.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband; Charles Eugene Reavis, a sister; Nida Vanhoose and three brothers; Robert Moore, Kelly Moore and Tommy Moore.

She is survived by a daughter; Stephanie Reavis Sanderson and husband Norman Wesley (Lee) Sanderson of Wilkesboro.
