Mr. Roger Franklin Brown, age 79, of North Wilkesboro passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Baptist Home Baptist Church with Pastor Bryan McDevitt and David Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
Roger was born November 29, 1945, in Wilkes County to Ernest and Alene Lockhart Brown. He was a member of Baptist Home Baptist Church. Roger started a lifelong career in automotive services at Yadkin Valley Motor Company in 1964. He worked at various dealerships, ending his career teaching automotive service technology at Wilkes Community College and retired in 2008. Roger was a local history buff and won the Willie Parker Peace History Book Award in 2005. His book “Wheels and Deals in the Yadkin Valley” traced and recorded the history of transportation in the Yadkin Valley. He loved flying airplanes, restoring old cars, and dearly loved his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Gail Absher Brown and a nephew-in-law; Michael Morrison.
He is survived by a daughter, Michelle Brown Dancy and husband Craig of North Wilkesboro, a son, Jimmy Scott Brown and wife LeeAnn of Millers Creek, two Grandchildren, Noah Dancy and Presley Dancy, a brother; Mark Brown and wife Jana of North Wilkesboro and a niece, Heather Morrison of North Wilkesboro.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Baptist Home Baptist Church, 2367 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
