Roger Dale Smithey

Mr. Roger Dale Smithey, age 76 of Millers Creek passed away Wednesday April 27, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday April 30, 2022, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev.  Sherrill Wellborn and Minister Rachel Jarvis officiating. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral home prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars by Post 1142 Honor Guard will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park.                 

He was born on August 15, 1945, in Wilkes County to Freddie Brisco and Mary Lucille Anderson Smithey. Roger loved to go hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway with the grandchildren. He loved to fly fish, spend time with family and friends, and enjoyed going to the 114th Aviation Company reunions. Roger was in the United States Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He was a prior Chairman to the Republican Party for many years. He enjoyed sharing his love for Christ and his Christian Faith with others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter Sue Ann Smithey; one son; Roger Dale Smithey Jr. and one brother Carl Smithey.       

He is survived by his wife Peggy Lyall Smithey of the home; one son Derick Dale Smithey of North Wilkesboro; one daughter Carla Smithey Royal and husband Randall of Millers Creek; one brother Robert Smithey and Davida of North Wilkesboro; five grandchildren; Jacob Smithey, Alyssa Royal, Josiah Smithey, Jenny Smithey and Lydia Royal; and many nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law; Bob Caudill of North Wilkesboro and one sister-in-law; Mollie Smithey of North Wilkesboro.
