Mr. Richard Clarke Current, age 91 of North Wilkesboro passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at his home. 

Funeral services with Military Honors by the North Carolina National Guard will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with Dr. Bert Young and Dr. David White officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 17, 2025, at The Farm, 12930 Cool Springs Road, Cleveland, NC.  

Richard was born August 16, 1934, in Alexander County to Richard Earl and Lurline Clark.  He graduated from Georgia Military Academy and attended North Carolina State University for two years before entering the United States Army.  Richard went on mission trips to Cuba, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Cambodia, Vietnam, Guatemala.  He was also on the Board of Directors for Helping Hands Ministries and High Pastures.  At the time of his death he was the oldest living Land Surveyor in the state of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife; Carleen Hefner Current. 

He is survived by his wife Ruth Plymale Allen Current of the home, a sister;  Anna Ruth Current of Jupiter, FL.,  three sons; Anthony (Andy) Current of Charlotte, Richard Lee Current and wife Madelyn of Statesville, John Clark Current and wife Jane of Cullowhee, grandchildren; John Current, Hannah Gainey, Chuck Ellis, Matthew David Current, Bryce Current, Leandra Ottman and husband Jake, Breanna Current, Luke Current and wife Kelsey, Thomas Current and wife Cynthia, great-grandchildren; Ashton Ottman, Molly Current, Lucy Current, Aubrey Canady, Eliza Canady, McKenzie Gainey.   

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017.
