Rev. Richard Davie Cardwell, age 74 of North Wilkesboro passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, October 22, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Reach Center with Rev. Mike Hamby and Rev. Shane Pardue officiating. Private burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:15 PM until 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Reach Center.
Richard was born February 21, 1947 in Wilkes County to Rev. James Garfield and Lucille Miller Cardwell. He was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church.
Richard graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute on June 13, 2003, he was ordained on June 6, 2004 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science Degree on September 13, 2004 (graduated Cum Laude). He served on many mission trips throughout the world, and was a faithful servant. He was a pastor at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Jonesville from 2003 until 2011, pastor at Fishing Creek Baptist Church in Wilkesboro from February 2013 until August 2019 and also served as Interim pastor at Elk Baptist Church.
Along with his service work, he was a master carpenter, musician, and friend to many. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, Father, and Papa.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters; Geraline Cardwell, Greta Cardwell and Carolyn Cardwell Houck, two brothers; Clyde Cardwell and James Cardwell.
He is survived by his wife; Audrey Elledge Cardwell of the home, two sons; Kevin Cardwell and wife Christian of Millers Creek, Kelly Cardwell of the home, four granddaughters; Haley Cardwell, Hannah Cardwell Ortiz and husband Adam, Courtney Pierce and husband Ben all of Purlear, Madison Boyles and husband Jake of Millers Creek, a sister; Geraldine Eller of Wilkesboro and a brother; Steve Cardwell and wife Sandra of Millers Creek and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Christian Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
