Michael was born June 27, 1951, in Miami Beach, Florida to Lipscomb Lykes “Bud” and Mary Ouida Slade Chapman. Michael started his life out crazy – surfing, drugs and alcohol; he was a wild one who threw his whole being into whatever he was about even if it was not good for him. Until one day, it was all too much and not enough all at the same time. That was the day Jesus saved him from everything, Michael went on to become a beloved husband, father, grandfather, missionary to the nations (and to everyone that came into his path), bishop and the Pastor on the Greenway.
He received his A.A. Degree in 1970 at Georgie Military College, his B.A. in History in 1972 at FAU and his Master of Divinity in 1990 at Nashotah House Seminary. From June 1990 to September 1999, he was a Vicar of Christ Episcopal Church in Brentwood, NY. From September 1999 to 2010, he was in charge of The Holy Way House in Moravian Falls, NC; where he took in troubled youth (of all ages) to disciple and bring to a deeper knowledge of the Lord. In 2010 he moved to Peru, South America with his wife Linda, as missionaries. He was elected as Suffragan Bishop of Anglican Church of Peru and worked there until July 2015; when they moved back to the USA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Chapman of the home; two daughters, Rachel Cinnamon (Jacob) of Hamptonville, NC, Sarah McInnes (David) of Chapel Hill, NC; four grandchildren, Urielle Cinnamon, Joella Cinnamon, Areli Cinnamon, Luke McInnes; his sister, Cris Flay (C.J.) of Ronda, and his brother, John Chapman of Asheville.
Michael will be missed, but his message of love of his savior, who loves you and will save you too – will live on forever.
