Ms. Rena “Kaye” Messick Welborn, age 80, of Wilkesboro passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 20, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Prayer Chapel with Rev. Kevin Brown, Rev. Hadley Triplette officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery the casket will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. 

Kaye was born April 12, 1945, in Wilkes County to Renn and Rachel Eller Messick. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother; Oliver Hoit Messick, and her sister; Lila Anne Mourie. 

She is survived by her daughter; Tamara Bryant of Millers Creek, son; Richard Bryce Welborn and wife Angela B. Welborn of Millers Creek, five grandchildren; Johnathan Renn Welborn, Joshua Andrew Welborn, Zachary Richard Welborn, Luke Alan Bryant, Heath Mark Bryant, one great-grandchild; Levi Mason Bryant, and sister; Jeanette M. Haynes of North Wilkesboro.
