Presley Grant Burgess

Mr. Presley “Jack” Burgess, age 90 of North Wilkesboro passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center. 

Private family graveside services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2020, 1:00 PM at Mountlawn Memorial Park with Rev. David Jones officiating. The public may view Mr. Burgess at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Friday from 2:00 until 6:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 until 12:00 noon. 

Mr. Burgess was born September 10, 1929 in Wilkes County to Roby Harrison and Linnie Jane Absher Burgess. He retired from Key City Furniture after thirty plus years of service. Jack was a member and Deacon of Baptist Home Baptist Church.   He served in the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters;  Ora Lee McGinnis, Nora Dale Faw, Grace Prevette, Geneva Faw; a brother Arthur Burgess; a son-in-law, Jay Shew. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Dare Hutchinson Burgess; a daughter, Venetia Shew of North Wilkesboro; a son David Burgess of North Wilkesboro; two grandchildren Adam Shew and wife Stephanie, Amanda Chambers and husband Kenneth; and five great grandchildren, McKinley, Sadie, Jackson, Jase, and Jaylee. 

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Baptist Home Baptist Church 2367 Sparta Rd. North Wilkesboro, NC  28659.
