Montie spent much of his formative years at New Damascus Baptist Church, where he nurtured his faith and strengthened community ties. Eventually, he became an active member of Parks Grove Baptist Church, where he continued to grow spiritually. Montie possessed a deep passion for music, which was evident in his love for singing and playing a wide variety of musical instruments. His musical journey led him to become a founding member of Brief Encounter R & B band and the founder of Stand Music Ministries, music groups that brought joy and entertainment to many. Later in life, he established a nonprofit called Stand Ministries, which has continued to be a source of inspiration and support for numerous individuals.
Academically, Montie was a dedicated student. He graduated from Wilkes Central High School and pursued higher education, earning an Associate’s degree from Wilkes Community College. Additionally, he obtained his Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) certification and even attended NC State University to further his knowledge and skills. Montie channeled his expertise into entrepreneurship by starting his own Recording Studio and HVAC business, DeLab Studios, where he specialized in local and regional artists while also designing and installing heating and air conditioning units. After a commendable career, he retired from United Parcel Service (UPS), having completed 34 years of dedicated service.
In addition to his parents, Montie was preceded in death by his beloved grandsons: Jadan, Chase, and Jacob Bailey. He also mourned the loss of two sisters: Sylvia Jean Bailey and Pamela Bailey Martin; three brothers: Rev. Larry Bailey, Randal Bailey, and Velmar Bailey; and an adopted sister, Martha Barber.
