Mrs. Mildred Tate Finley Brooks, age 100, widow of Leonard Lawrence Brooks, Sr., died Saturday, October 16, 2021 peacefully at her home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church with Rev. R. C. Griffin and Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. A private family graveside service will be held at Mountlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Brooks was born January 9, 1921 in Norfolk, VA to the late Fred Tate Finley and Mildred Hope Whitney Finley. She was the oldest member of the North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church. Mildred and her husband were the founding members of the Tory Oak Twirlers. She also served in numerous organizations in the church. She was a substitute school teacher in the Wilkes County Schools and a Brand Jewelry sales clerk for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lawrence Brooks, Sr.; two sisters, Frances Dancy and Mary Garden Barton; and three brothers Fred T. Finley, Jr., Franklin Finley, and Richard McBride Finley.
She is survived by two sons, Leonard Lawrence Brooks, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth A., of North Wilkesboro and William Finley Brooks and partner, H. Dean Bullis, Jr. of Wilkesboro; two grandchildren, Laura Brooks Baxley and husband, Dwayne, Fort Mill, SC, and Niel Brooks and wife, Melissa, of Wilmington; three great-grandchildren, Brooks Baxley, Max Brooks, and Molly Tate Brooks; and two sisters, Linda Elledge of Boone, and June Cain of Colorado Springs, CO; her devoted caregivers, Teresa Wolfe, Margaret Church, and Janice Elledge.
