James Michael “Mike” Ashley, age 62 of North Wilkesboro, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church with Rev. David Wellborn, Rev. Michael Golden and Rev. Scott Townsell officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, September 5, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Mike was born on May 28, 1963, in Wilkes County to Chancie Eugene Ashley and Ruth Frances Huffman Ashley.   He attended Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church and Haymeadow Baptist Church.  He was owner of Mike Ashley Hauling.  Mike never met a stranger.  He lived to laugh.  He enjoyed teasing with people with his variety of snakes, spiders, and bugs.  He loved his family fiercely.  Mike loved to hunt and fish and would ride anything with a motor and wheels.  He was locally and affectionately known as “Crash Ashley” and “Mike Crashley” and was our own personal Evil Knievel.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Gaither and Della Shepherd Huffman; paternal grandparents, Pete and Bessie Haynes Ashley; one brother, Robert Eugene Ashley; and brother-in-law, Harold Thomas Call.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Karenelle Kirk Ashley, of the home; daughter, Brittnee Kaylee Ashley Rogers and husband, Brett of Florence, SC; two grandchildren, Peyton Michael and Kyleigh Rae; sister, Kay Ashley Call of Wilkesboro; nephews, Scott Ashley and wife, Amy, Jonathan Ashley and wife Debbie, Marty Call and girlfriend, Hope Wyatt, Allen Call and wife, Jessica; great nieces, Madison Ashley Combs and husband, Hunter and Maison Ashley; great nephews, Tyler Ashley, Seth Call, Chancie Call and Halston Call; best friend Tim Carty and wife, Vicki; and loyal four-legged companions, Amara and Tatum.

Flowers will be accepted, or due to Mike’s love of children, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  The family has requested no food.
