Mr. Michael Steven “Steve” Wood, age 67 of Roaring Gap passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Alleghany Memorial Hospital.
Private graveside services were held at Scenic Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wood was born February 25, 1954 in Wilkes County to Eli Glenn and Arlena Richardson Wood.
He was preceded in death by his father and parents-in-law.
Steve was an excellent husband, son, brother and neighbor. He had a entrepreneurial spirit and loved working challenges. After he built a couple of small housing developments and remodeling homes, he most especially enjoyed woodworking, developing land and creating beautiful landscapes. His leisure time was invested in fishing, hunting, archery, playing golf and helping others. Steve was a man of integrity. His word was his bond. He loved doing things with his wife Audrey. He was a quiet, gentle, kind, generous, faithful servant. After a diagnosis of Parkinson's he became more and more appreciative of the most simple things and he fought hard everyday to overcome his shortcomings due to the disease. He never gave up and, like his father, he refused to go on disability. Steve felt that others needed it worse than he.
He is survived by his angel wife; Audrey Prevette Wood, his mother; Arlena Wood of North Wilkesboro, two sisters; Darlene Harvey and husband Craig Harvey of Sarasota, FL, Glenda Elliott and husband Scott of North Wilkesboro, brother and sisters-in-law; Bobby and Norma Sheets, Nellie Prevette, nieces, and nephews; Allison Elliott Carr and husband Josh, Teresa Clonch and husband Larry, Marty and Gina Prevette, Scott and Crissy Prevette, Karen and Ty Bush, Mike and Jenny Prevette and lots of other great nieces and nephews.
A Special thanks to all others who worked with Steve over the years and those who supported his business over the decades. A special thanks to all those who offered prayers and help these last 10 years of our Parkinson’s journey. And a very special thanks to “Mikie” Michael McMillian who supported him during his last moments.
Steve always said to his many customers “Thanks for the work!”
Steve will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. May his soul Rest in the Peace of Christ.
