She is survived by her husband, Reggie Oneal Walker, and children, Jessica Leigh Walker and Adam Stone (son-in-law) of Seneca Falls, NY and Kelsey Oneal Walker of Brevard.
Melva dedicated her life to caring for those she loved including her mother, Ora Laws, who survived her, and the furry creatures in her life, Jasper, Cricket, Keilana (deceased) and Konan. She was close to her siblings, Aveline Taylor (deceased), Mae Shepard, Lola Bell, Zerna Blevins and their spouses and her husband’s siblings, Nina, Darrell, Gary, Mark Walker and their families.
Melva took comfort in her faith and was blessed to have enjoyed the love of two church families at Christian Home Baptist Church in Traphill and more recently Liberty Grove Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro where she is currently a member.
Melva was passionate about people and worked to cultivate a sense of community and love. She built a loving home and dedicated her life to helping others professionally by caring for children, seniors, and members of her community. Included in her friends and family were the members of the Willys Knight Overland Registry. She was an active member and organized the registry’s 2009 national meet in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains she loved so much.
Melva is remembered by those who loved her as empathetic, creative, witty, adventurous, energetic, and fun-loving. She enjoyed traveling, spending time gardening and exploring new activities. She was a devoted mother, wife, and friend and will be truly missed. Those who knew her have said that words cannot describe her impact in their lives, it had to be experienced.
Her funeral will be held at Liberty Grove Baptist Church on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Sparks and Mr. Freddie Jennings officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will follow at her home at 476 Gilliam Road, North Wilkesboro.
