Marion Max Joines of Wilkesboro passed away on Thursday, February 19 at Wilkes Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, February 27 at Walnut Grove Baptist Cemetery. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, February 28 at 11:00 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Fitzgerald officiating, followed by a reception at Wilkesboro United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Max was born on May 13, 1941 to George Wesley and Allie Carrigan Joines. He is survived by his wife, Jane Sturdivant Joines, his children, Martin Max and James Scott Joines, Meredith Carson Carter (Jason), Bryant Carson (Erin), his grandchildren, Allie, Amberlyn, Jerry, Carson, Camden, Quinn, and his siblings, Dr. William Joines, Aileen Joines Bentley, and Peggy Martin Halsch (Garrin).
He was a lifelong member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church where he served many years as Deacon and also as a member of the cemetery committee. Following their marriage, he attended Wilkesboro United Methodist Church with his wife, Jane.
After a vast array of occupations, including civil service, transportation, and auto mechanic, Max began his career at Hunt Manufacturing Company in Statesville, NC on September 11, 1967 as a Time Study Engineer. Over the years, he assumed many roles such as Production & Inventory Control Manager and Supervisor of Engineering. In 1977, he transferred to Hunt-Bienfang division as Plant Engineer. He retired on September 11, 2001 as Plant Manufacturing Manager.
Max enjoyed a full life, as evidenced by the countless stories that can be told by those who knew him. As a family member once said, he was a professional engineer, a pretty good mechanic, but a diesel genius. He was a jack of all trades and met every challenge with determination and persistence.
