Max Parker Church

Mr. Max Parker Church, age 91 of Elkin passed away November 10, 2022, at Pruitt Health in Elkin.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday November 13, 2022, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in the Lomax Community with Rev. Danny Bauguess officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard and United States Air Force will be in the church cemetery.

He was born June 20, 1931, in Wilkes County to Thomas Mitchell and Flora Jordan Church. He was an active member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Leader. He was an Electrical Contractor and Salesman and served as an Electrical Trades Instructor at Surry Community College for 30 years. Max was a Veteran of the United States Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War, he was stationed at Haneda Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan, where he served as Crew Chief for the Aircraft Maintenance Military Air Transport Service. Max had a lifelong love of Bluegrass and Gospel music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle and singing in Gospel Quartets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters; Mozelle Hudler, Mauvareen Walls, Dolores Fasanella and Audene Church.

He is survived by his wife Mabel Parker Church of the home; three sons; Gary Church and wife Tammie of Charlotte, NC, Darryl Church and wife Donna of State Road and Kevin Church and wife Laura of Matthews; eight grandchildren; Ashley Foley, Lindsey Church, Zachary Church, Matthew Church, Brandon Church, Chaston Church, Jessica Church and Olivia Church; two great-grandchildren; Dorothy Foley and Elijah Church.
