Mary McSwain Obituary

Mrs. Mary Hollis Cobb McSwain, age 91 of North Wilkesboro passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Mary was born on June 22, 1930 in Mecklenburg County to Hollis and Elizabeth Ledford Cobb.

Private services will be held.

In addition to her husband Walter Scott McSwain Jr.; and parents she is preceded in death by one sister; Betty C. Smith; one brother; Hollis Cobb Jr.

She is survived by one daughter; Melinda McSwain Warren of North Wilkesboro; one son; Walter Scott McSwain III of North Wilkesboro; one grandson Ray Warren Jr and wife Heather of North Wilkesboro; seven great grandchildren; Ray Warren III, Chloe Warren, Charlie Warren, Walter Max Warren, Bailey Barnes, Riley Barnes, Chloe Barnes.

Mary was a graduate of Central High School  in Charlotte, N.C. and a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, N.C.  She was a 70 year member of the First United Methodist Church in North Wilkesboro; secretary for four years at Wilkes Central High School and twenty-five years at Fairplains Elementary School.  Mary was voted Educational Office Personnel of the Year for the Wilkes County School District and District Educational Office Personnel of the Year.

Mary was an avid Bridge player; volunteer at Wilkes Regional Medical Center; served on the Volunteer Board as corresponding secretary and recording Secretary/Treasurer for eight years.
