Mrs. Martha Kate Waugh Barnes, age 89 of North Wilkesboro passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, at her daughter’s home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:15 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnes was born on January 14, 1936, in Wilkes County to Benjamin H. and Daisy E. Smith Waugh.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Eugene Barnes, Sr., six sisters and five brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Barnes and Donna Harper both of Winston-Salem and one son, Russell “Rusty” Barnes, Jr. and wife Trish of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Zachery Isaiah Barnes, Alex Russell Barnes and Kama Patrice Barnes; and great grandchild, Chase Russell.
