Mrs. Marjorie Dula Roberts, age 93, of Ferguson passed away Monday, June 15, 2026, at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 19, 2026, at Elk Baptist Church with Rev. Lawson Horton officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 PM prior to the service at the church.

Marjorie was born September 1, 1932, in Wilkes County to William S. and Minnie Jane Dula.  

Most people knew Marjorie as Margie, but throughout her life she answered to many beloved titles. She was known as the “Queen of Ferguson,” unofficially as “The Mayor,” the reason for "Livermush Monday" and after becoming a great-grandmother, “Granny” was perhaps the name she cherished most.

There are hardly enough words to describe the kind of person Margie was because she meant so much to so many. A hardworking woman throughout her 93 years of life, she embraced every season of life with determination and grace. Her many roles included a family farmhand, a shoe and furniture maker, doctor’s assistant (who encouraged her to pursue training as a brain surgeon), a quilter, and for many years, the cook at her family-owned greasy spoon, The Grocery Basket & Grill.

Margie’s love language was giving. It never mattered who you were or what your circumstances might be—you could always count on her for a good meal and a warm welcome. While she enjoyed every chapter of her life, her greatest pride came from being a mother, a grandmother, and, above all, a great-grandmother.

You know the feeling of wrapping up in a well-made quilt—the warmth, comfort, and sense of being cared for? That is how Margie loved.  Chances are, if you knew her, you also owned one of her quilts. Every day spent with her offered something to learn, and every day was filled with the certainty of her love.

Margie found joy in gardening, sewing, fabric shopping, flowers, cold weather paired with a roaring fire, yard sales and thrift stores, a piece of cornbread and a Diet Sundrop, good conversation, and even a fun Snapchat filter.

While we grieve the loss of such a bright light in our family and community, we find comfort in knowing Heaven is a little sweeter with her there. We know many loved ones were right behind Jesus to welcome her in, but of all those she missed, her daughter Susan was the one she wanted to hug first. Margie loved the Lord, her family, her friends who became family, and her community. The best way to honor her memory is simple: love one another without conditions. Share a meal. Offer kindness. Make someone feel welcome.

That is how Margie lived, and that is the legacy she leaves behind. 

On behalf of our sweet Margie, we would like to thank all of the staff at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center who helped care for her during her recents stays in the hospital, especially those who cried with us on Monday morning and those who have personally reached out to offer condolences and cry with us. Dr. Kristin Kirby who amplified the meaning of compassion and care, Dr. Julia Yaraei who spent many years keeping Margie on her toes, and the incredible team at Wound Care Center - Wilkesboro. Thank you for loving Margie so much! 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Susan Roberts Freeman, two sisters; Riley “Delight” Wolfe, Dorothy Dula and a brother; Billy Ray Dula. 

She is survived by a son; Anthony “Tony” Dula (Tamara) of Ferguson, grandchildren; Margo Foster (Gary) of Wilkesboro, Mechelle Padgett of Charlotte, William Dula (Hannah)  of Ferguson, Danielle Absher (Daniel) of North Wilkesboro, great grandchildren; Austin Burgess, Alyson Royal, Griffin Absher, Lucas Absher, Weston Absher and special one; Taylor Koch, a sister; Doralee Harris of Ferguson and a son-in-law; Allan Freeman of North Wilkesboro. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Ebenezer Christian Children’s Home, 1006 Byrd Ridge Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
