Mrs. Lucille Lankford Johnson, age 81 of North Wilkesboro passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at her home. 

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Welcome Home Baptist Church with Rev. John Triplett and Rev. Ethan Williams officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM prior to the service at the church. 

Lucille was born January 25, 1944, in Wilkes County to Jessie McKinley and Ona Forester Lankford.   She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church.  

After a year at Appalachian, she went to work at Lowe’s Home Improvement where she managed the Inventory Department.  She retired after 21 years.  After retirement she cared for her church and community.  

Mama’s famous saying to her family were; first and foremost you must be a Christian (that meant you must be a Southern Baptist) second, you must be a Republican and third, a West Wilkes Blackhawk, “Once a Blackhawk, always a Blackhawk”. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Don Johnson, a brother; Burl Lankford and a brother-in-law; Buster Greer. 

She is survived by two daughters; Lisa West (Nat), Candice Moore (Hassan) both of North Wilkesboro, six grandchildren; Sara Brewer (Adam), Natalie Marley (Andrew), Chris West, Ethan West, Justin West, Midna West, seven great grandchildren; Michael Brewer, Jackson Coleman, Sophia Brewer, Will Marley, Justice Marley, Daniel Marley, Brayden West, a sister; Marcella Greer of Davidson, a brother; Gerald Lankford (Linda) of North Wilkesboro and a sister-in-law; Marolyn Lankford of North Wilkesboro.
