Lorene Johnson Wyatt

Mrs. Lorene Johnson Wyatt, age 91 of Statesville, NC formerly of Roaring River, NC went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Yadkinville, NC.                                                

Lorene was born February 22, 1930 in Wilkes County, NC to the late Parley Asbie Johnson and Alma Odie Shepherd Johnson.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Mayford Kenneth Wyatt, a daughter-in-law, Teresa Jane Wyatt, and a sister, Jessie Johnson Israel. 

Lorene worked at Hanes Knitting in Winston Salem, NC before later retiring from Celanese Corporation in Salisbury, NC.  After retirement Lorene continued to work part time for many years. She always believed in having a good work ethic and she worked as long as her health would allow.  Lorene enjoyed keeping busy by crocheting, working crossword puzzles, puzzles, and reading.  In her younger years she found a love for bowling; spending her free time with her traveling bowling league and teaching her family bowling tricks.  Lorene loved to share stories of her youth, whether it was about the time she saw Elvis Pressley in concert or about having fun as a child by tying strings to June bugs to watch them fly around. 

Lorene loved her family very much and her family loved her deeply.  She spent as much time as she could with them and what love she could not express with words, she demonstrated through her actions.  She especially loved sharing holidays, traveling, going to amusement parks, and vacationing at the beach with them.  She also loved New Light Baptist Church, in Roaring River, NC where she grew up.  Later after moving to Statesville, NC she would frequently drive from Statesville to be there for their Sunday morning services.  She loved to sing and grew up singing with her mother and sisters.  Until the end of her life Lorene continued to sing hymns and songs she remembered from her youth. 

Lorene is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Prevette of Traphill, NC, and Georgie Shelton of Dobson, NC.  Lorene is also survived by; two sons Milton W. Jolly (Marie) of North Wilkesboro, NC and Mevis D. Jolly (Kathy) of Roaring River, NC, and a daughter, Marlene Wyatt Jacobson (Marc) of Lexington, NC; nine grandchildren Jeff Jolly (Christy), Michael Jolly (Amanda), Amy Jolly Grose, Daniel Jolly (Tonya), Nicholas “Nick” Cash (Jessica), Amber Cash, Jason Wyatt (Madison), Angela Wooten (Josh), Terry Edward “Eddie” Johnson (Amy); thirteen great-grandchildren, Trace Jolly, Tate Jolly, Kara Cheek, Aiden Jolly, Collin Grose, Chase Grose, Paizley Jolly, Tyler Wood, Jayda Burchette, Kaydence Stokes, Junior Stokes, Benjamin “Benny” Wyatt, and Lucas Wooten; and a great-great-granddaughter expected in January.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved. 

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at New Light Baptist Church #1 in Roaring River, NC with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service.  Those attending can help celebrate Lorene’s life by wearing red.
