Mrs. Lee Absher, age 94, of Wilkesboro, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Trellis Supportive Care’s Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House, surrounded by her sons.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Wilkesboro Baptist Church, with Rev. Chris Hefner and Rev. Al Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church.
Lee was born on June 27, 1930, in Wilkes County to Ms. Vallie Mathis. She was a devoted member of Wilkesboro Baptist Church. Growing up in the Roaring River community, she dreamed of becoming a nurse and helping others. Through hard work and perseverance, she achieved her dream. After graduating from the Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing, she worked as a registered nurse in Chicago, IL, and Sacramento, CA, before returning to Wilkes County. Back home, she spent the majority of her career working for Dr. William C. Hayes until his retirement. Following that, she worked at Wilkes Regional Medical Center until her own retirement.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Dean Absher.
She is survived by her sons, Keith Absher of Wilkesboro, and Blake Absher and his wife, Beth, of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren, Betsy Absher Nagpal (Jay) and Grayson Absher; and four great-grandsons, Drew Nagpal, Luke Nagpal, Ben Nagpal, and Nate Nagpal.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the tremendous care and support provided by Edwin Taylor, Lee’s caregiver, for several months at the end of her life.
