Mr. Larry Ernest Eller, age 80 of Millers Creek, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at SECU Hospice Care Center in Yadkinville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Millers Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Bradley Lisk and Rev. Jamie McGuire officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was born August 6, 1944, in Wilkes County to Ernest Alonzo and Geneva Faw Eller.
While he worked in the telecommunications industry all his life, his passion was being a Firemen and First Responder with Millers Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He joined the department in the early 1970’s and served as Chief from 1978 to 1991. During his tenure as Chief, he started the First Responder and Junior Fireman programs at MCFD. He retired from fire service in the early 2000’s and then served on the Board of Directors until his passing. He also served as President of Wilkes County Fire Association. In January 2023, MCFD recognized Larry for fifty years of service, now totaling 52 years. He was a board member of West Wilkes Water Association until passing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Thomas Eller.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Moore Eller; daughter, Tammy Eller Whitworth and fiancé Chris Bishop of North Wilkesboro; son James Larry Eller and wife, Jamie of Roanoke, VA; five grandchildren, Anna Grace Whitworth, Wyatt Whitworth, Tucker Whitworth (Teagan), Cole Eller (Kristin), and Megan Eller; two great grandchildren, Sarah Grace Whitworth, Eden James Eller; and a brother, David James Eller (Tammy) of Millers Creek.
