Kathryn Yates Obituary
Mrs. Kathryn Cooper Yates gained her angel wings on Wednesday April 6, 2022, surrounded by her family. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 63 years, Bryant Yates, her sisters Mary Ellen Shumate of East Bend, Gail Byers and husband Herley, Tammie Cooper, Jennie Brooks and significant other Roy Solona, all of Purlear; Brother in law, Mike Yates and wife Teresa, a very special grandson, Jared and his mother, Donna Simpson. She is also survived by an honorary sister, Bobbie Burke, along with many well loved nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Lavaughn Cooper and step mother Bervia Cooper; one daughter Janessa Yates, one son David Yates, two brothers Robert and David Cooper.
Kathryn served her community and her church throughout her lifetime in many different ways. She was a Sunday school teacher as well as a Bible School Teacher and handled any other need that arose. She was ready to lend a helping hand and took care of families by providing food in their time of need. Kathryn was one of the best cooks ever and she loved to do it. Her hobbies were shopping, traveling, shopping, gardening, shopping and flowers but most of all talking about and visiting with her grandson, Jared. He was the light of her life. Retired from bring the Administrative Assistant to the Wilkes County DA and worked in the Wilkes County Register of Deeds.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday April 9, 2022 at Purlear Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie McGuire, Rev. Hadley Triplett and Kent Shumate officiating. The body will lie in state prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Friday April 8, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8: 00 PM. Burial will be in Purlear Baptist Church Cemetery.
