Kathleen Carpenter Edwards

Kathleen Carpenter Edwards, age 97, formerly of Sparta passed away peacefully Thursday, July 17th, 2025 at Rose Glen Manor in Wilkesboro.

Kathleen was born on May 27th, 1928 in the Twin Oaks area of Alleghany County, to the late Clay and Lula Blevins Carpenter. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thurmond (CT) Edwards Jr and her son, Charles Gregory (Greg) Edwards, sisters: Imogene (Jean) Edwards, Anna Lee Ausley and brothers: James Carpenter, Olen Carpenter, and Wayne Carpenter.

Survivors include a daughter in law, Pam Goodman-Edwards of Wilkesboro; a grandson, Geoffrey Charles Edwards and wife Olivia of Wilkesboro; several nieces and nephews also survive. Kathleen was especially close to her niece, Beverly Poole, her husband Gary, and their children, Jerad Poole and Brittney Poole Wyatt.

Kathleen married CT Edwards on March 24, 1951. They became members of the First Baptist Church of Sparta on April 29, 1962. She was a faithful servant alongside her beloved sister Jean in the Nursery Sunday School Class for over 40 years, each passing on the role well into their 80s. She retired from Hanes Knitwear and was instrumental in organizing monthly breakfast meetings for Hanes Retirees. She enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, and hosting Sunday afternoon cookouts as long as her health allowed. She was an avid walker and member of the Silver Striders for many years. In 2018 she relocated to Wilkesboro to be close to her son, Greg and his family. While living in Wilkesboro she quickly became a part of the Rose Glen Village community. There she was able to continue to be active in weekly church services and her daily practice of walking became strolls around the Rose Glen community. She was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan and hardly ever missed an opportunity to watch golf on television. Kathleen enjoyed baking and two of the family's favorites included Cream Cheese Pound Cake and Coconut Pie.

Funeral services to honor the life of Kathleen will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 27th, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Sparta with Pastor Matt Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
