Joyce "Joy" McNeil Barnett

Mrs. Joyce “Joy” McNeil Barnett, age 80 of Wilkesboro passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center. 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday May 12, 2023 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Moore officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. 

Joy was born November 28, 1942 in Wilkes County to Clate and Mary "Sue" Hollar McNeil.  

Her greatest loves were Jesus, her husband, George, and her children, grandchildren and all of her extended family.  She was an amazing cook and always made the best chicken and dumplings in town.  She loved all animals, the color pink, and family time and a great meal at Thanksgiving.  She learned the power of sacrificial love from Irene McNeil (aka “Nannie”) who raised her and her brother, Ralph.  Her life was exemplified by an unwavering devotion and love for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother; Ralph McNeil. 

She is survived by her husband; George Barnett of the home, a daughter; Julie Moore of North Wilkesboro, two sons; Nick Moore and partner Alan of Charlotte, Rev. Joey Moore and wife Lisa of North Wilkesboro, four grandchildren; Megan McDonald and husband Alex, Erin Mullins and husband Kevin, Jordan Moore and Quinn Moore. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church, 1390 Boiling Springs Road, Purlear, NC 28665.
