Joseph Oliver Hanks

Mr. Joseph Oliver Hanks, age 94 of Hays, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Stanley officiating.  Burial will follow in Mountlawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Mr. Hanks was born November 23, 1930, in Wilkes County to Joseph McKinley and Nancy Elmira Sidden Hanks.  He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hanks was preceded in death by one son, Michael Hanks.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nell Alexander Hanks, of the home; two daughters, Julie (Lee) Swaim of Sunset Beach, NC and Patricia (Jim) Dvorak of Hays; one son, David (Debbie) Hanks of Hays; three grandchildren, Cindy Swaim, Amanda Sanchez, and Courtney Dvorak; and three great-grandchildren, Ava Sanchez, Ella Sanchez, and Joshua Dvorak.
