Joseph Harold Horton

Dr.. Joseph Harold Horton, age 73, of Winston Salem passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center. 

Graveside Services with Military Honors with Veterans of Foreign War Post 1142 will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Beaver Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Margaret Sloan officiating. Dr. Horton’s body will lie in state at the church cemetery from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM prior to the service. 

Dr. Horton was born October 10, 1946 in Wilkes County to Malcom Cornelius and Thelma Victoria Horton.   He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

He attended North Carolina A & T University.  He graduated from the University of Michigan where he served on the Alumni Association as secretary and he received his PHD. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Horton was the director of the MBA Program at Howard University. 

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Malcom Horton Jr., and Thomas Douglas Horton. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanne Dula Horton; three sons, Brandon Horton and wife Renae of Winston Salem, Joseph Horton, Jr. of Winston Salem, and Derrick Horton of Winston Salem; eight grandchildren, Brandon Horton II, Jayden Horton, Reniyah Hurdle, Maleek Williamson, Amber Blanchard, Malakhi Horton, Isaiah Williamson, and Zayne Williamson; also a brother, James S. Horton and wife Margaret of Ferguson.
