Lieutenant Jonathan Andrew Laws passed away June 27, 2025, due to injuries suffered in a car crash.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Hwy 268 with Rev. Benny Romans officiating. Jonathan’s casket will lie-in-state from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was born February 10, 1991, to Ronnie and Melissa Ward Laws. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He graduated in 2009 from East Wilkes High School and competed on the Cardinals wrestling team. In 2012, Jonathan graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He became a law enforcement officer with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department, where he served until his death. He trained under Joe Hurst in jiu jitsu, and in 2022 earned his black belt.
In 2024 he married Autumn Elledge Laws. She was the love of his life, and he was hers.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Lucy Laws and maternal grandfather, John Ward.
He is survived by his parents, wife, his source of great pride, son Luke Alexander Laws, his brother Jesse Laws, grandmother, Annie Sue Ward, his best friend, James Myers, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and his crew and coworkers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the State Employees Credit Union, 146 Thomas Street, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or 1100 Brushy Mountain Road, Wilkesboro, NC 28697 in care of Melissa Laws for the benefit of Luke Laws.
