Mr. John Henry Saunders, age 85, of North Wilkesboro passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Edgewood Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Tharpe and Rev. Kevin Souther officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 PM prior to the service at the church. 

John was born April 23, 1941, in Wilkes County to Earl and Eula Foster Saunders.   He was a very proud businessman, and he loved to tell jokes. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Hazel Lee Cox Saunders, two sisters; Louise Barney, Nellie Call and three brothers; Earl Gordon Saunders, Paul Saunders and Roy Saunders. 

He is survived by two daughters; Teresa Watson (Louis) of Taylorsville, Melissa Saunders of Lexington, two sons; John A. Saunders (April) of North Wilkesboro, Thomas Saunders of North Wilkesboro, five grandchildren; Cody Haynes, Madison Haynes, Logan Saunders, Travis Watson, Justin Watson, two great grandchildren; Kerilita Saunders, Brantley Saunders, three sisters; Jane Tillman of Denver, Rose Bennett (Dewayne) of North Wilkesboro and Ina Poindexter (Larry) of Elgin, SC and a brother-in-law; Willie Call. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice.
