John Talmadge Cleary

Mr. John Talmadge Cleary, better known as “Jake” and “J.T,” age 91 of North Wilkesboro, died Friday, July 23, 2021 at his home.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Boyce Cleary, Rev. Homer Maltba, and Mr. Tristan Davis officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.  Entombment will be at Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. 

Mr. Cleary was born July 22, 1930 in Wilkes County to the late John A. Cleary and Jane Richardson Cleary.  He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.  He was an Army veteran that fought in the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Thelma Billings Cleary; one daughter-in-law, Gail Cleary; four sisters, Vern Mayberry, Mable Brooks, Mozelle Sparks, and Thelma Crabb; and one brother, Clyde Cleary.

He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Edwards and husband Billy of North Wilkesboro and Lisa Edwards and husband Rick of Roaring River; one son, Ronnie Cleary of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Shane Cleary, Shannon Cleary, Brandon Edwards, Chelsea Davis; and three great-grandchildren, Reese Cleary, Maven Edwards, Paxton Edwards; and one sister, Estelle Walker and husband Chester of Hays.
