Mr. John Andrew Johnson, Jr., age 97 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at his home. 

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 29, 2026, at Mountlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Tim Pruitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. 

John was born October 9, 1928, in Wilkes County to John Andrew and Minnie Jane Curry Johnson. He served in the United States Army during World War II. John was also an avid Washington Redskins fan. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Fannie Blackburn, Mary Johnson, Sylvia White, Alma Johnson; two brothers, George Monroe (Joe) Johnson, and Ruben Johnson. 

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorris Hall Johnson of the home; daughter, Debbie Adkins (Wayne) of Buchanan, VA; son, Darryl Johnson (BJ) of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Jason Adkins, Ryan Adkins, Leanne Childress, Jonathan Johnson; ten great-grandchildren, Cora Adkins, Reid Adkins, Ella Adkins, Lauren Adkins, Peyton Adkins, Ethan Childress, Makinzi Childress, Brantlee Childress, Emery Shell, and Weston Shell. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Byrd Ridge Crisis Center, P.O. Box 1188, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
