John Alan Hayes, the eldest son of Attorney Joseph Allie Hayes, Sr. and wife Doris Bumgarner Hayes, born September 9, 1936 in Millers Creek, NC passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 at his home on the Brushy Mountains.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 2, 2022 at Millers Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tom Vannoy, Rev. David Dyer and Mr. Fred Poole officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother; Hale Hamilton Hayes and his nephew; Joseph A. Hayes, III.
He is survived by a brother; Joseph A. (Shirlene) Hayes II of North Wilkesboro, a niece; Sherri (Rob) Cordell of Myrtle Beach, SC, a sister; Caroline (Ralph) Bentley of Statesville, a nephew; Randy (Kim) Bentley of Blowing Rock, two nieces; Marjorie (Phil) Davison of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Melissa Bentley of Troy, three great nieces; Caroline and Sarah Davison, Joyce Windsor and two great nephews; Drew Bentley and Luke Davison.
John graduated from Wilkes Central High School. He was an avid scouter and earned his Eagle Scout award. He served as a Boy Scout leader for many years after serving in the United States Air Force for 4 years and becoming an airplane mechanic.
He was interested in classic and historical cars, restoring and rebuilding them. In his later years he enjoyed building models and other art work.
John was an active and loyal member of New Hope Baptist Church in the Brushy Mtn. Community.
