Mr. Joel Brian Sylvester, age 79 of Wilkesboro passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020, at his home.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Scenic Memorial Gardens with Pastor Larry Cole officiating. The public may view him at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 10:00 until 10:30 on Saturday prior to the service.
Mr. Sylvester was born February 14, 1941 in Dearborn, MI to Joseph John and Judith Ellstrom, Hauser. He was adopted and raised by Daniel Mills Sylvester and Judith Ellstrom. He was a retired Petty Officer First Class in the U.S. Navy. He also retired with 20 years with the Civil Service at the Cherry Point Marine Corp Base in North Carolina. Joel was a man who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and had a servant’s heart. A devoted husband and prayer partner with Letha. His prayer is for all to know Jesus Christ and His love and forgiveness.
He was preceded in death by parents.
Mr. Sylvester is survived by his wife; Letha Fern Holt Sylvester of Wilkesboro; a daughter, Jennifer Moore of Old Town, ME; two step-daughters, Carmelita Starner of St. Ignatius, MT, Susan Gonzalez and Tony of Newport, NC; a son, Christopher Sylvester and wife Dede of Bucksport, ME; two step-sons, John Starner and Lana of Norwood, NC, Dee Sherman, and Mary of Ronan, MT; twelve grandchildren, Hadley Moore, Quinn Sylvester, Spencer Sylvester, Joshua Yandell, Danielle Roberts, Eric Starner, Kyle Starner, Senica Gonzalez, Sara Korhonen, Maricela Gonzalez, Adam Sherman, and Justin Sherman; four great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Ouzts, Zurielle Gonzalez, Greyson Starner, and Jessie Sherman; three sisters, Kristin Mills of Orange County California, Lisa Anne Kievet, and Lisa Ann (Hauser) Nesbitt of Cabot, AR; three brothers, Daniel Mills Sylvester II and Florenda of GA, Noel Sylvester and Jennifer Fais of New York, and Kurt Joseph Hauser of Pasadena, CA.
