Joann Miller Smithey

Joann Smithey, age 64, of Moravian Falls, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Bethany Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Elmore officiating. Burial will follow at Old Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Joann was born on June 12, 1959, in Wilkes County to Gladys Smithey and Don Miller.  She had a big heart. She was a wonderful wife, Mama and MawMaw who loved her husband, kids and spoiling her grandbabies.  She enjoyed caring for her dogs and cats, and feeding the wild animals around the house.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first son, Michael Wayne Miller; one sister, Gail Smithey; and two brothers; Jackie Miller and Billy Smithey.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Smithey of the home; daughter, Erin Anniebeth Barnett and husband Marcus of North Wilkesboro; sons, Slick Smithey and wife Kaylee and Daniel Smithey all of Moravian Falls; daughter-in-law, Stacey Key of Moravian Falls; grandchildren, Maselyn Barnett, Meredith Barnett, Makenzie Barnett, Ginni “Poodle” Key, Seth Smithey, Caleb Smithey, Jalen Smithey, Bubbles Smithey and Bambam; sister, Joyce Bounds of Roaring River; and brother, Junior Miller of Rock Creek.
