Joann Hendren Powers

Mrs. Joann Powers, age 85 went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on  Monday, September 11, 2023 at her home. 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Bethany Baptist Church (Brushy Mtn) with Rev. Vince Adams and Mr. Taylor Shepherd officiating.  Mrs. Powers will lie-in-state from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the service.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

Joann was born August 2, 1938 in Wilkes County to Clarence Jehu and Zella Tevepaugh Hendren.  She was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Greensboro.  She resided in the Greensboro area for 67 years and was employed with AT&T for 40 years.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Tony Leon Powers, four sisters; Gladys Cambell, Betty Rufty, Janie Reid, Martha Billings Childers, five brothers; Jim, Donald, Max, John and Lowell Hendren. 

Those left to cherish her memory are a son; Anthony Jason Powers and wife Valerie, four grandchildren; Luke Powers, Tyler Powers, Gavin Messenheimer and Maddox Messenheimer, two sisters; Libby Oliver of Stony Point and Sally Moore of Moravian Falls, two brothers; William Hendren of Greensboro and Roger Hendren of Moravian Falls. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 7930 Brushy Mountain Road, Moravian Falls, NC 28654
