Mr. James “Curtis” Foster, age 91 of Purlear passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Lewis Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Dwayne Andrews and Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial with Military Honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard will be in Arbor Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was born on December 11,1930 in Wilkes County to Albert Kelsey and Mae Watson Foster. Curtis served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Vulcan Materials as Area Manager. He was a member, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and served in many other church positions at Lewis Fork Baptist Church. He had served on the Board of Directors at West Wilkes Medical Center. He was a member of Arbor Grove United Methodist Church Men’s Club and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law; Perry Dancy, two sisters; Colia McNeil and Etheleen Eller seven brothers; Garvin, Walt, Rex, Claxton, Colin, Albert Kelsey (A.K.) and infant Morrison Foster.
He is survived by his wife; Dorothy Hayes Foster of the home, a daughter; Sherry Lynn Foster Dancy of Purlear and a grandson; Dr. Jeremiah Ross Dancy and wife Lesliie of Kingston, RI.
Pallbearers will be Niki Hamby, Kimi Handy, Kipi Hamby, Kini Hamby, Kelly Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Larry Foster and Larry Hayes.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Lester Johnson, Tim Johnson, Trevor Hamby, Ethan Hamby and Tim Faw.
